Alejandra Gómez: Washburn Alumna's Journey from Washburn in Puerto Rico to UPR Ponce, Purdue University Vet Research, Michigan State Veterinarian Investigation and National Veterinary Research Recognition

Alejandra Gomez — Washburn Alumna Success Story: From 14 Years at Washburn School to UPR, Veterinary Research  at Michigan State University, and National Presentation  at a Symposium in Minnesota

We are filled with pride to share the achievement of Alejandra Gómez, who, after beginning her university studies at the University of Puerto Rico, has participated in research at Michigan State University and was invited to present her work at the prestigious Veterinary Scholars Symposium in Minnesota, an event that gathers top veterinary researchers and students from across the country to share their findings and advancements in the field. She previously completed a veterinary program at Purdue University.

Alejandra has been working at the MSU Veterinary Medical Center, where her research focuses on evaluating the use of the NT proBNP bedside test to determine the risk of fluid overload in hospitalized cats. She is conducting this work alongside veterinarians and specialized staff, and it has been an incredibly enriching experience for her, particularly in developing her public speaking skills through project presentations.

These are the doors that open when you have 14 years of excellent education. Alejandra, who studied her entire life at Washburn, has not only become bilingual enough to successfully study at the University of Puerto Rico in both Spanish and English but also prepared in English to seize academic opportunities abroad. She has shown that she can excel in high-level research, academic presentations, and even national forums with a global audience. This is a clear example of how far you can go with a solid education and determination.

Congratulations, Alejandra, on this great achievement and for all that is yet to come!
Her brother Omar is studying medicine and also spent his entire life as a student at Washburn.
