SUBJECT: TROPICAL STORM ERNESTO – WEATHER UPDATE AND SCHOOL CLOSURE TUESDAY AUGUST 13 AND WEDNESDAY AUGUST 14 - CLASSES RESTART THURSDAY, AUGUST 15, WEATHER PERMITTING
Dear Parents,
As of 5:00 PM today, the National Weather Service (NWS) announced that the weather disturbance it was monitoring in the Atlantic has developed into Tropical Storm Ernesto, the fifth tropical cyclone of the season. The agency has issued a tropical storm warning for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The storm is expected to pass over the region beginning Tuesday afternoon, although rain may start affecting us earlier.
Given these developments, and with safety as our top priority, we have decided to cancel classes for Tuesday, August 13, and Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Classes will restart on Thursday, if the weather permits it.
This decision has been made after careful consultation with local authorities and in consideration of the varying weather conditions across the island. Therefore, to ensure everyone's safety, especially as classes are just beginning, we believe this is the most prudent course of action. We will have time to tweak the schedule in the future for semester two.
- During this period, we recommend taking the following precautions:
- Stay Informed: Follow weather updates from official and reliable sources.
- Prepare Your Home: Ensure you have basic supplies such as food, water, and medicines, in case of power outages or access issues.
- Follow Safety Instructions: Adhere to recommendations from local authorities to ensure your safety and that of your loved ones.
We will continue to keep you informed through our social media channels and web pages regarding the resumption of classes and any other relevant information. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this situation.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your teachers or school administration.
Thank you for your attention, and we wish you safety and peace during these days.
Sincerely,
Ronnie Lópezcepero, M.Ed, M.A, Ed.D (Cand)
